PORTLAND, Maine -- Akron's Jaime Pedroza launched a solo home run leading off the seventh and final inning in game two of Thursday's doubleheader at Portland, giving the RubberDucks a 1-0 victory and twinbill sweep over the Sea Dogs at Hadlock Field.
It was Pedroza's first homer in the Indians' organization and came after the Ducks had won the first game, 4-2. It also lifted Akron to its first three-game series sweep at Portland since 2009.
Most importantly, it handed the RubberDucks their fourth straight victory and pulled the club to within a half-game of first-place Richmond. The Flying Squirrels were scheduled to play a doubleheader at New Hampshire on Thursday night.
Justin Toole led the RubberDucks with a pair of RBI singles in game one, including an infield hit in the fifth inning off Luis Diaz (3-3) that drove in Pedroza to break a 2-2 tie. Pedroza later added an RBI single to make it 4-2.
Former Kent State standout Anthony Gallas homered in the first inning of game one for Akron, his 13th of the season and second of the series.
