High School Roundup (April 11): Gray pitches Kent Roosevelt baseball to win over Revere

KENT ROOSEVELT 3, REVERE 1

The Rough Riders’ Dean Gray earned his first win over the season, going the distance while striking out eight and walking none in a 3-1 Suburban League American Division win over the visiting Minutemen on Tuesday.

A first inning double by Riley Day and an RBI ground ball by Vince Battaglia in the second gave Roosevelt (5-6, 3-3 American Division) a 2-0 lead.

After Revere cut the lead to one run in the third, the Rough Riders added an insurance tally in the fifth.

SOFTBALL

GARFIELD 5, LAKE CENTER CHRISTIAN 2

The G-Men broke a 1-1 tie with four runs in the top of the sixth for a 5-2 victory over the host Tigers.

Maddie VanKirk ripped a triple, double and single, while Hannah Smith added two singles for Garfield.

Lexi Buck paced the Tigers (4-4, 1-3) with three singles and an RBI, Olivia Moore collected a pair of singles and an RBI, while Izzie Miller chipped in with two singles.

Travis Verh had six kills and Zach Wright added 17 assists, but the host Rough Riders (2-5) dropped a non-league game to the Polar Bears on Tuesday.
