High School Roundup (April 13): Ravenna baseball strikes early in win over Coventry

BASEBALL

RAVENNA 4, COVENTRY 1

The visiting Ravens scored three runs in the first inning and held off the Comets the rest of the way for a PTC Metro Division win on Thursday.

Jared Horner pitched a complete game for Ravenna and drove in the first run with a sacrifice fly. Drew Lyon and Michael Wunderle followed with RBI singles.

Wunderle and John Morgan had two hits each for the Ravens.

John Stone and Kyle Black had two singles apiece for Coventry.

MOGADORE 14, WATERLOO 1

Three pitchers combined on a one-hitter as the Wildcats pounded the host Vikings in a PTC County Division contest on Thursday.

Austin Williams went the first three innings, followed by Andrew Popa and Mitchel Markusic, who together struck out 10 batters.

Williams also led the offense for Mogadore (4-2, 3-2 County) with a double, four singles and five RBI.

Alan Stover had a triple and two RBI, while Kole Jaber and Popa added two singles each for the Wildcats.

Shane Diven had a single for Waterloo (0-7, 0-3).

SOUTHEAST 4, GARFIELD 2

The Pirates rallied from a 2-0 deficit to edge the host G-Men in a PTC County game.

Winning pitcher Joe Roderick scattered just three hits and also singled home a run.

Timmy Dailey had three singles and an RBI, Justin Prater added a pair of singles and an RBI, while Kyle Pruitt hit an RBI double for Southeast (4-3, 4-1).

Tommy Bissler had a double, single and an RBI, and Dane Burrows added a single for Garfield (2-7, 0-5).

FIELD 12, STREETSBORO 2

Dominic Smith drove in three runs and Austin Black plated a pair of tallies in the host Falcons' PTC Metro Division win over the Rockets.

Smith had two singles, Black had a double, and Lincoln Hackim rapped a double, single and drove in a run for unbeaten Field (7-0, 5-0).

Nick Keba had two singles for Streetsboro (2-6, 1-4).

ROOTSTOWN 7, CRESTWOOD 2

The visiting Rovers broke a 1-1 tie with four runs in the top of the fourth and held on for a PTC County Division win.

Dan Simons pitched the first four inning to pick up the win, while Ben Shank went two innings for his first save.

Brad Trescott had three singles and three RBI, Brandon Tasker added two singles and two RBI, while Mike Weber had a pair of singles for Rootstown (5-2, 2-1).

Kolton Rahach had two singles and an RBI, and Jakeb Tekavec rapped an RBI single to lead Crestwood (5-3, 2-3).

SOFTBALL

GARFIELD 7, SOUTHEAST 0

Kenzie Click tossed a complete-game shutout and Lizzy Perkins drove in three runs to lead the host G-Men to a PTC County Division win.

Hannah Smith rapped a home run, two singles and drove in two; Madi VanKirk had a triple, double and single; and Katie Synnestvedt chipped in with a double and two singles for Garfield (4-3, 3-2).

Bre Westover had two singles for Southeast (0-7, 0-5).

CRESTWOOD 5, ROOTSTOWN 0

The host Red Devils scored all their runs in the first two innings and Mikayla Campbell pitched a complete-game shutout in a PTC County Division win over the Rovers.

Sierra Gregel had a double, single and RBI, while Angela Masiello and Mia Miller had two hits each for Crestwood (5-1, 5-0).
