Kent State redshirt senior Reggie Jagers III completed a stellar collegiate career by finishing second in the discus with a career-best heave of 205-1 at the 2017 NCAA Outdoor National Championships, which continued Friday at Hayward Field in Eugene, Ore.
Jagers improved on his seventh-place finish from last year with a toss that beat his personal best by nearly three feet, and earned First Team All-American honors for the second straight season. The former Solon High School star led the event heading into the final round, but Virginia senior Filip Mihaljevic unleashed a heave of 209-2 on his final throw to claim the national title.
Jordan Young of Virginia took third (203-2). Reggie's brother, Akron senior Phillip Jagers, finished 16th (182-10).
