Ficociello blast sinks RubberDucks

Daniel Robertson excels in Columbus Clippers victory

ERIE, Pa. -- Dominic Ficociello hit a two-run home run and had three hits as the Erie SeaWolves beat the Akron RubberDucks 9-4 on Thursday.

Erie started the scoring with a big third inning, when it put up five runs, including a two-run home run by Ficociello.

Erie left-hander Tyler Alexander (5-6) picked up the win after allowing two runs on eight hits over 5 2/3 innings. Opposing starter Matt Esparza (5-2) took the loss in the Eastern League game after a rough outing in which he allowed nine runs and 11 hits over 4 2/3 innings.

COLUMBUS 5, TOLEDO 3

TOLEDO, Ohio -- Daniel Robertson hit a run-scoring single in the seventh inning, leading the Columbus Clippers to a 5-3 win over the Toledo Mud Hens on Thursday.

Shawn Armstrong got Matt den Dekker to fly out with a runner on first to end the game for his sixth save of the season.

The single by Robertson, part of a two-run inning, gave the Clippers a 4-3 lead before Yandy Diaz hit an RBI double later in the inning.

Toledo went up 3-0 early behind solo home runs by Jim Adduci and Brendan Ryan. Columbus answered in the sixth inning when it crossed the plate three times, including a solo home run by Robertson.

Columbus right-hander Adam Plutko (5-8) picked up a quality start and the win after allowing three runs on just four hits over 7 1/3 innings. Opposing starter Matthew Boyd (3-3) took the loss in the International League game after allowing five runs and nine hits over 6 2/3 innings.

Adduci homered and doubled, driving in two runs for the Mud Hens.
