Time is running out, but not completely gone to register for the 3rd Kids Am and the 10th Matt Mishler Junior Portage County Amateur this week.
Deadline for the Kids Am, aimed at youths age 12 and under, is July 21 for the event that takes place on July 23. Deadline for the Junior Amateur is July 22 for the tournament that competes July 24-25. The Junior Amateur includes three age divisions for both boys and girls.
Registration is available at all host golf courses: Sunny Hill, Sugar Bush and Windmill Lakes and online at www.recordpub.com. There is also a pay link on the Facebook page Golf in the Record-Courier Portage County Amateurs that redirects to the appropriate Record-Courier webpage.
Tee times for all of the Record-Courier's amateur touranments will be posted online and in print editions the day before the event.
OHIO JUNIOR GIRLS FINALE
41st Championship Concluded at Marion Country Club
A rain-shortened 41st junior girls championship was dropped to 27 holes from 36.
Sarah Willis, a senior at Eaton High School in Eaton this fall, won the event with a final score of 106, topping Madison Butler of Hinckley by one stroke.
The only local competitor, Hannah Finley of Kent, fired a 128, good for 36th place.

Frieda Dalrymple Memorial Golf Scramble
Women's Champions of the 4th Frieda Dalrymple Memorial Golf Scramble for the women, with a score of 66, were Debbie Moore, Tami Marozzi and Susan Martin. Not pictured, Lorie Marozzi.
Men's Champions of the 4th Frieda Dalrymple Memorial Golf Scramble with a score of 58 were Ryan Poland, Arden Doolittle, Rodney Saver and John Gray.
Hosted by the Ravenna Chapter No. 46 Order of the Eastern Star, the event's proceeds are donated to Cure PSP Foundation. PSP is a neurodegenerative disease that is a progressive brain disease with no known cure. It affects brain cells that control balance, walking, coordination, eye movement and speech as well as swallowing and thinking.
The golf scramble also provides scholarships for a Ravenna High School senior and a Kent Roosevelt senior pursuing a technical career.
PAWS FOR GOLF
10th Annual Event
The 10th annual Paws for Golf Charity Golf Outing to benefit the Portage Animal Protective League takes place at Raccoon Hill Golf Club in Kent on Aug. 12
Golfers will register at noon before the 1 p.m. shotgun start. Early bird registration is $90 per golfer by July 27, with the regular price $100 per golfer prior to the event. For information, call Raccoon Hill Golf Club at 330-673-2111.
Weymouth and Fox Meadow Country Clubs
The premier event for Ohio golfers, amateurs and pros, begins on Monday and continues through Wednesday at Weymouth and Fox Meadow Golf Clubs in Medina. The 97th Davey Tree Ohio Open Championship features all golfers playing 18 holes at both courses before the cut is made for the final championship day on Wednesday.
Local golfers competing include: Nathan Tarter of Mogadore, Mitch Camp, Jacob Kruegel, Tyler McHugh, Bud Radis and Gary Trivisonno of Aurora, future Kent State University golfer Will Kurtz of Hudson, Mark Sierak of Barrington Golf Club in Aurora, Justin Long of Windmill Lakes Golf Club in Ravenna, Dennis Holub of Reminderville, and former Kent Roosevelt and Kent State golfer Randy Dietz of Tallmadge.
Best rounds reported by area leagues
SUNDOWNERS (Raccoon Hill Golf Course): Lois Schlademan fired the low gross, a 50, when the Sundowners met on Friday night at Raccoon Hill. Ella Harvilic earned low net with her 34 effort. Linda Shahan, secretary of the league, had the high points and Suzanne Cherry putted the fewest times when it only took her 15 putts over nine holes. Ella Harvilic had the most bogeys, three, and Pat Helsel had one par.
PORTAGE COUNTY LEAGUE (Sunny Hill Golf Course): Don Houghton and Brian Jaros still lead the league with a three-point cushion over Roger Black and Ken Stoner. Richie Miller fired a 38 for low gross and Greg Bills scored a 31 for low net. Ron Stoner was closest to the pin on the eighth hole.
THURSDAY NIGHT LADIES (Paradise Lake Golf Club): Ali Thomas fired a 43 for low gross and turned in a 35 for low net in Flight A. Debby Eli was the leader of Flight B, taking both low gross (45) and low net (30).
FARMBROOK (Fox Den Golf Course): Tom Reed was the best in the Red Flight, firing a 39. He also is in first place and totaled the low net score of 33. In the White Flight, Charley Hallenbeck had the low gross 42 and low net 35, but saw Bryan Stephenson move into first place. Robert Colecchi carded a 34 for the low net in the Blue Flight, while Mark Kittinger scored the low gross 47 to help move him into first place in the flight.
