Beer dinner, juried art show set in Kent

Grab a date, friend or family member and make your way to downtown Kent for dinner and a show. This weekend, check out new artwork on display at the Downtown Gallery and then indulge yourself with a five-course beer dinner.

Juried Cup show at the downtown gallery

The opening reception of the 12th Annual National Juried Cup Show will be from 5 to 7 p.m. today. The show will be on display through April 20 at the Kent State University School of Art's Downtown Gallery located at 141 East Main Street.

This exhibition was selected from 214 entries from over 32 states. This year's juror, Kirk Mangus, a professor of art at Kent State University will award $1,000 in prizes.

There will also be donated cups available for purchase to help support the new graduate fellowship in ceramics.

Come show your support for Kent's local art scene. The gallery hours are noon to 5 p.m. Wednesday through Friday and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday.

The Rusty Nail Goose Island Beer Dinner

Join The Rusty Nail for an evening with your BFF -- beer, food and fun. The Rusty Nail's five course Goose Island Beer Dinner will be at 6:30 p.m. this Thursday.

The reception beer will be Goose Island IPA. The dinner will include a first course, arugula salad with an orange vinaigrette, peppered bacon and marinated fennel, the second course will be coriander scallop with lobster-sherry reduction and corn relish, the third course or the naughty goose will include grilled pork tenderloin with sage risotto and apple compote, the fourth course, beer-braised beef short ribs with white corn polenta and pickled onion and the fifth course, chocolate pots de crème for dessert.

The cost is $40. House of LaRose and Goose Island Brewery will sponsor this dinner. The Rusty Nail is located at 7291 State Route 43.
