Four New York City-based stand-up comics bicycling across Ohio will take stage at the Stone Tavern, 110 E. Main St. in Kent at 7:30 p.m. today for a free show.
On a journey dubbed the "Laugh Strong Tour de Comedy," comedians Dean Masello, Adam Sokol, Christian Polanco and Max Boyajian peddled off from Cincinnati on Sept. 6, and are performing every night on their way to Cleveland. The comics have also planned "comedy ride-along" events prior to their shows, including one in Kent today.
Masello, a Cleveland native and Kent State University graduate who converted to stand-up after practicing law in Columbus, said he organized the small tour after the spontaneous idea struck him as a way to get back on his bike.
"I've been doing comedy for six years. It consumes your life and you really don't have time to do much extracurricular stuff," Masello said. "I wanted to do a cross-country tour and realized I'd never be able to do it with comedy so I just figured why not combine the two, and it just kind of grew from there."
Bicyclists interested in a comedy ride-along are invited to meet at Kent Cycle at 115 Lake St. at 4:30 p.m. today. From Kent Cycle, bikers will ride to the Firehouse Pub & Grille in Tallmadge via the Portage Hike and Bike and Freedom trails, meet up with the comedians around 5:30 p.m. and then bike back to Kent.
Masello said the energy along the tour has picked up steam with each show, and so far the journey been a fulfilling experience.
